We have endeavored to provide an audio feed and videos of area events that are as universally accessible as possible. You will find help below specific to Mac and Linux users and specific to certain web browsers. If you have questions not addressed, please send KENC an email (see his contact page), and he will forward the question to his very small geek army. We will do our best to answer your questions but cannot promise a solution because of the many different types of computers and software out there.
How do I listen with a Mac? Many MAC users have found free downloads at Microsoft very helpful. There, search on “Media Player for MAC” and you will get at least three hits. The first is a plug-in for QuickTime that allows you to play Windows Media Content right from QuickTime. The second two options are media players for OS X and newer as well as one for systems older. Here is the link to the page to enter this search www.microsoft.com/downloads
If you are using Ubuntu or some other flavor of Linux, the web-browser you are using is most likely Firefox, in which case you will want to look under "Help for Firefox Users." If you are using another browser and you cannot open the stream, you will have to search for help for your specific browser or access the stream directly from your media player, in which case please read the section "Connecting to the Stream Directly."
If you are using Firefox to view the webpage, a dialog will appear when you click one of
the Listen links. Here, you will have to select a program to use to play the
radio stream. There will be a list of possible applications to use.
If there are no applications listed, you will have to click the "Choose" button
and select a media-playing program.
If you do not have any media programs, go
download VLC media player from their site.
VLC media player is a a free, open-source program that plays audio and video from local files or streams.
If you do not want to have to select a program every time, make sure you check the
box that says "Remember my choice for mss links."
If you are a linux user and do not already have a media player capable of playing streams, go download VLC media player. Once you have VLC installed on your computer, open the program and follow these steps to connect to our radio stream:
It might take a few seconds to start, so please be patient. It should eventually start playing music until you hit the stop button or exit the program.
If you are a Windows user and want to access the stream directly, without having to go through your browser, you can do so with Windows Media Player:
Windows Media Player will save your URLs in a dropdown menu so that next time you want access the stream, all you have to do is click OPEN URL and select the KENC one from the dropdown list.
If you had bookmarked any page on our site other than the home page before June 19th, 2009, you may have lost your bookmarks. This was due to an update that renamed most of the pages. To get your bookmarks back, you can just enter the site through the home page and click the links to the pages that you had previously bookmarked. (Going from the main page, you will be accessing the new pages.) You can then bookmark the new pages.
